In a development first reported by the Wall Street Journal, a U.S. official confirms that the Pentagon has placed about 2,000 American troops on a heightened state of readiness to possibly deploy to the Middle East in case they are needed.”
This language is identical to what the Pentagon used right after Russia invaded Ukraine and it appeared that the U.S. might need forces on NATO’s eastern flank on short notice and units were told to be on standby.
Some of them did and others did not.
It’s important to stress that in this new development these are not U.S. combat troops, but U.S. military personnel that have a wide array of military capabilities including advising, support, and medical support.
And if needed these units would not be going to Israel, but to the Centcom area of operations.
If these units are deployed their purpose would be to serve as a deterrent.
