Maersk Launches New U.S.-China Air Cargo Link

Two new regular air freight services linking the United States with China are to be introduced by the Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk), the company said in a press release on Tuesday.

According to Maersk, a global integrated logistics company, the creation of the new customer-backed air corridor helps “plug a connectivity gap between the world’s two largest markets for ocean customers” for time-sensitive and high-value cargo.

“With the introduction of these new routes, we are further connecting North America and Asia Pacific through regular flights and controlled capacity for our customers,” Michel Pozas Lucic, global head of air at Maersk, said.

The new service will commence with two weekly flights between Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) and Shenyang Taoxian International Airport (SHE), with an additional two weekly flights between Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport (HGH).

“Both services will be increased to three weekly flights from May 2023,” the press release said.

To help facilitate the expected demand on the new service, Maersk Air Cargo, the in-house cargo airline of Maersk, has recently acquired three Boeing 767-300 freighters.

This latest expansion of trade opportunities with China comes two weeks after Maersk celebrated the launch of a new air freight service on March 20, consisting of three weekly flights between Billund in Denmark, and Hangzhou in China, operated by Maersk Air Cargo.
